Massage Therapy

Massage TableThe main purpose for Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes.  It increases circulation without increasing heart load.  It stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable.  Swedish massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system along with soothing the nerves as well.  Massage reduces stress, both emotional and physical.  Massage is suggested in a regular program for stress management.

Massage therapy has been proven to help alleviate many of the body’s issues.  Many different approaches can be taken to help reduce stress and pain to help benefit a general feeling of well being for many individuals.  Swedish Massage Techniques include:  long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage and shaking motions. The massage will be performed by Karen McConnell a licensed professional and a member of the AMTA.The desired outcome of the session will be discussed between the therapist and the client before the session begins. This will determine which parts of the body will require massage.  A typical full body session will include massage on the back, arms, legs, feet, hands, abdomen, shoulders and neck.  The breasts or genitals will not be touched.  The client will disrobe privately to their comfort level (usually to their underwear), relax on the table and cover with a clean sheet.  You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable.  Only the area being massaged will be exposed.  Your massage will be performed in a warm, comfortable, quiet room.  Soft music will be played to help you relax and get the most benefit from the massage.

Although there are many benefits to massage, there are also contraindications (reasons why you shouldn’t get a massage).  It is very important to let the therapist know about any of the following conditions:
